Planning to make some energy efficient home improvements this year?  If so, you have probably heard that doing so provides homeowners with some nice tax credits.  Spoiler alert – like many of our tax rules, figuring out how to maximize these tax credits can be a little bit confusing.

To try to get a sense of the taxes you might save, please check out the easy to read FAQs that the IRS has posted about Energy Efficient Home Improvements and Residential Clean Energy Property Credits.

And if you plan to install an EV recharging station at your home, please be aware of a tax credit equal to the lesser of 30% of the costs incurred or $1,000.  To claim the credit, you’ll complete and attach a Form 8911 to your federal income tax return filed for the year the recharging station was installed.
