Notice from Dept. of Family and Medical Leave

What it is:

Some Employers are getting notices from Department of Family and Medical Leave (from: noreplypfml@mass.gov). They want to know who to email when an employee makes a claim for Paid Family and Medical Leave.

What to do:

  1. Log into your Mass Tax Connect account to review or correct information.
  2. Follow the instructions in the email.  (You will need the individual code from the email to complete the form.)  It should take less than 5 minutes.

Notice from MA Dept. of Revenue – HIRD (Health Insurance Responsibility Disclosure)

If you are a Schwartz & Schwartz Payroll client, send us your HIRD info (link to worksheet) and we’ll submit this for you.

What it is:

Mass State Dept of Revenue is requiring Employers with *6 or more Employees to annually file the HIRD form, about comprehensive medical plans, through the Mass Tax Connect web portal.  Even if you do not offer employer sponsored health plan, you must file.   You or your payroll/HR company can file the HIRD.  Employer is ultimately responsible for filing the HIRD on-time.  Each separate FEIN must file separately.  If you don’t have a Mass Tax Connect Account, contact DOR’s customer service center at (617) 466-3940 and choose the option to speak with a HIRD representative https://www.mass.gov/info-details/health-insurance-responsibility-disclosure-hird-faqs

Nov. 15 – Dec. 15, 2020

 What to do:

  2.  Log onto Mass Tax Connect and submit your answers  https://mtc.dor.state.ma.us/mtc/_/

Mass Department of Unemployment Assistance Tax Notices

If you are a Schwartz & Schwartz Payroll client, then we will take care of this for you.

What it is:

Mass Department of Unemployment Assistance sends out the tax rate Notice to employers before Jan 31, 2021. To view the notice, log into your employer UI account.  From the Account Maintenance page, you can click View Rate Notice.  If the rate changes, your payroll company needs the new rate.  Or you may receive the notice in the U.S. mail

Due Date:

By Jan. 31, 2021

What to do:

  1. Check with payroll company to see if they get your tax rate notice
  2. If not, give your payroll company the Rate Notice for payroll 2021.
  3. Or, now you can set up your payroll as TPA (Third party administrator) on your UI account so they will receive the notice.
  4. Follow up with payroll to make sure they have any tax rate changes if there are any.

Fraudulent Unemployment Claims

There has been wide scale unemployment benefit fraud across the nation.   If you see a claim you or your employee did not file or anything that looks suspicious, check your employer account, ask your employees.
